Join us on our journey through digital humanities tools to discover the evolving landscape around our heroes and monsters.In this timeline, our team, consisting of Alexia El Alam, Ghida Allam, and Joseph Abboud, is going to analyze the topic of “Heroes vs monsters”. We have recognized our common interest in this theme. Our childhood is based on the concept of good vs evil, which we believe is showcased in this theme. All the stories we were told have always shown a strong contrast between heroes and monsters (or villains) by portraying them confronting each other while putting the hero (aka the main character having “good” qualities) in the spotlight. However, recently, we’ve been noticing how the upbringing of the monster made him who he/she is and how society and other factors have shaped him/her: Villains are made, not born.
